Play golf for a good cause on Oct. 6.
The 10th annual Savannah River Cancer Foundation Golf Tournament, highlighting breast cancer education and awareness, will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. at the Golf Club at Cedar Creek. Proceeds of the event will directly benefit the foundation, which provides assistance to anyone affected by cancer in the CSRA.
The cost is $50 per person. The play format is four-person captain's choice. The cost includes range balls and lunch provided by Outback Steakhouse.
Prizes will be awarded to winners in the ladies division, men's division and Jack and Jill divisions. Kia of Augusta has provided the hole-in-one grand prize. A variety of items will be raffled off, as well.
Breast cancer survivors that attend will receive pink bracelets to wear as well as special recognition.
This year, Susan G. Komen for the Cure estimates there will be over 220,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer and nearly 40,000 deaths due to breast cancer in women. Susan G. Komen estimates there will be roughly 2,000 new cases of breast cancer in men and 400 deaths.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The registration deadline is Oct. 1. Golf club owner Hank Thurmond said the playing field has been full every year.
