Jamie Spencer to partner Sea Siren in Diamond Jubilee Stakes ? Horseracing News

Jamie Spencer is set to partner Sea Siren in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes (British Champions Series & Global Sprint Challenge) (Group 1), which is scheduled to be held later this month.

Trainer of the filly John O'Shea said, ?I spoke with Tom Magnier (of Coolmore) late last week and it has been decided that Jamie Spencer will ride the mare at Ascot. I'm comfortable with that as he knows the track and the conditions very well.?

About his runner, he added, ?Sea Siren had a very hard run when she ran second in the Doomben 10,000 then had a trip home on the float the next day but by the end of the week she had put on 5kg. She is a pretty fit mare and hopefully she will settle in quickly.?

Some extremely good stallions have been attracted toward the class-1 encounter and things will be quite challenging for everyone. A few of them might move to another race in order to avoid a tough contest but that will be decided a couple of days before the action kicks off.

Sea Siren has been rated quite highly by the bookies but her performances this season have not been good at all. She has struggled to match her rivals on most of the occasions, which will put her under immense pressure.

However, the five-year-old filly improved her speed to a great extent in her most recent race, where she finished as a runner up overall. She has got a lot of time to practice before the Diamond Jubilee Stakes and a top-three finish would certainly be the aim for her.

This event was won by Black Caviar last year but she was one of a kind. The Australian mare remained unbeaten throughout her career and it will be extremely difficult for others to emulate her.

Since the great runner has retired, all the Australian fans will pin hopes with their only representative Sea Siren, who has appeared in a dozen competitions until now.

Although the talented filly has been unable to deliver high quality results this year, her performances in the past were not bad at all. She has won four times whereas secured the runner up spot thrice, which shows that she can spring a surprise, especially under a seasoned rider like Spencer.
