The 2012 Henry and Elizabeth Haskell Preservation Award celebrates work done to preserve the Silander farmstead in Hamlin Township on Hamlin Lake.Recipients are the Rednalis Limited Partnership/Robert D. Wire, Albert G. Silander, Betty K. Silander, Judith M. Farrell and John M. Wire.
The farmstead came to the Mason County Historical Society?s attention during a fall visit to look at artifacts potentially being donated to the MCHS. Albert G. Silander was asked if he?d like to fill out an application for the award for the circa 1920 English Tudor-style gambrel roofed barn built by August I. Silander.
The application was submitted and Thursday night during the MCHS annual meeting at the Harbor View Marina, the award was announced and presented to parnership representative Don Wire.
