Bulldogs Set to Make Fourth NCAA Appearance in Last Nine Years?

NEW HAVEN -- Yale will face Bowling Green in the opening round of the NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament this Friday night at 5 p.m. in University Park, Pa. ?

The Bulldogs and Falcons will play in the first match of the evening at Penn State's Rec Hall, while the tournament's overall No. 1 seed Penn State will play Binghamton at 7:30 p.m. as part of the West Lafayette Region. ?

The two winners will play in a second-round match on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the same location.?

"We're thrilled to be playing in the NCAA Tournament," Yale head coach Erin Appleman said.? "This is another great honor for the Yale volleyball program and we're excited to be playing such high-level competition on the national stage."

Appleman served eight years as an assistant coach at Penn State and won a national title with the Nittany Lions in 1999 along with five NCAA Final Four appearances. ?

The Bulldogs, who will be making its fourth-ever NCAA appearance, became the second Ivy League team to finish the conference regular season at 14-0. ?

"We are so excited about our NCAA seeding and it will be a great adventure in Happy Valley," Yale senior team captain Haley Wessels said. "After a long season, we are looking forward to some good competition on the East Coast. With only a few practices left before the match, we are focused on the goal of representing the Yale volleyball program well on the national level. It will be an exciting experience."

The Bulldogs had an overall record of 18-5 and featured five All-Ivy selections.

Yale junior Kendall Polan won Ivy League Player of the Year, while freshman Kelly Johnson earned conference rookie of the year.? Junior Mollie Rogers was named to the All-Ivy First Team along with Polan and Johnson, while Wessels and sophomore Maddie Rudnick were awarded All-Ivy Second Team honors.

Bowling Green finished 21-10 overall and won the Mid-American Confernence post-season tournament. ?The Bulldogs and Falcons will be meeting for the first time.
