What's not to like about Leonardo Di Caprio and Claire Danes in 1996's "Romeo + Juliet"?
By Joy Jernigan, NBC News
It's a timeless love story that's been done again and again.
And the William Shakespeare tragedy is heading to the big screen once more, this time with "True Grit" Oscar-nominee Hailee Steinfeld and Douglas Booth, who recently starred opposite Miley Cyrus in 2012's "LOL."
"They were very cute, I'll tell you that much," co-star Kodi Smit-McPhee told E! Online. Smit-McPhee?plays?Romeo's cousin Benvolio in the film.
"I think every kid from this generation should see that once in their life," he added.
No release date has been set yet for the latest remake of the classic, directed by Carlo Carlei,?which is currently in post-production.?
Hollywood has done several versions of the story of the star-crossed lovers over the decades, with updates aimed at each successive generation.
Director George Cukor's?1936 version of "Romeo and Juliet," starring Leslie Howard as Romeo and Norma Shearer as Juliet, was nominated for a best picture Oscar.
A 1968 take on the tragedy directed by?Franco Zeffirelli and?featuring Leonard Whiting?as Romeo and Olivia Hussey?as Juliet also received an Oscar nod for best picture.
Most recently, Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes starred in 1996's "Romeo + Juliet," directed by Baz Luhrmann. (Sorry,?2011's animated take on the classic tale, "Gnomeo & Juliet,"?doesn't count.)
Some things never change.
