It was 10 months ago that I took a trip to visit my 2nd cousin who had lots of old family photos, heirlooms, an old family bible from the 1600's, old clothes that look to be wedding outfits, and much more. ?Needless to say, being the family genealogist, I was excited that they were finally willing to share it with me. ?It was also filled with old letters that contained invaluable family genealogy information. ?Once such letter was about the Titanic going down and the recounting of their own?experience?traveling from Scotland to Canada. ?The information was all tucked into this old steamer chest that they used to make that very journey. ?I just had it refurbished professionally and I have it sitting in my living room. ?I am so proud to have it my possession and can't believe it was sitting in so many garages deteriorating, now it has a proper home.
I learned a great deal about my ancestors from the information contained in the chest, as well as, research that I have done over the years. It is sad that I had to do so much hard work, when the trunk was filled with primary documents, some that I found through my diligent research, but could have been easily attained if the documents were shared. ?It is important to share your family tree research with others so they don't do the same digging as you and they can spend time on expanding what is already known. What family heirlooms have you found?
