Almond

The folks at Securifi are banking on the touch trend, unveiling the first touch- enabled wireless router, the Almond ($79 street). The Almond's touch interface is reminiscent of Microsoft's Windows 8 Metro interface because Almond too, has colorful tiles. Decent throughput, easy touch screen setup, plus the ability to operate Almond as a wireless extender, are all good reasons to consider this affordable Wi-Fi router. On the other hand, it lacks 5 GHz connectivity and has only two 10/100 Ethernet LAN ports. More worrisome: during testing, the touchscreen froze on me. I had to reboot the router to re-enable touch. Touch is compelling, but you may not want to give the heart of your network yet another reason it might need a restart.

Specs
Securify's Almond is a small device, measuring about 4.5 by 4.75 by 1.5 inches (HWD). The router is built to operate vertically. A large portion of the front of the housing is dedicated to the 320 by 240 pixel, 2.8-inch color touchscreen. I suppose you could operate Almond vertically, but the casing is slightly curved and the touchscreen's orientation does not change if you position the router horizontally.

The 2x2 MIMO antenna hardware provides up to 300 Mbps throughput at 2.4 GHz. The hardware is not the latest in the Wi-Fi market, but it's sufficient for connecting legacy 802.11b/g devices as well as 802.11n clients. The vendor's specs state the device can support up to 50 concurrent connections. While I didn't stress it to that extent in my testing, I did leave it running for three days straight, and the router stayed extremely cool the entire time.

There's a small stylus tucked away at the base of the router for more precise touch when selecting menu options. Since Almond and its screen are relatively small, those with less-than-slender fingers may find the stylus easier to work with.

Touch-Enabled Setup
Using a touch screen to set up a Wi-Fi router was, I have to admit, sort of fun. More importantly, the Almond's set up was quite easy.

Getting your Almond started is a matter of powering up Almond and then following simple, on-screen instructions. In a matter of minutes I had Almond configured as a wireless router. The device set up its own default SSID and passphrase (you can change both).

Menu options are on the Metro-like tiles and include, "Internet," "Security," "Wireless," "Range extender," "Help," and "More." Touching these tiles allows you to see or edit the router's configuration. Configuration options are very basic, for example, opening the "Wireless" tile lets you change the SSID or password and enable a guest network.? "Security" gives you the choice of changing the encryption level?it's WPA/WPA2 by default?or enabling a screen lock that can be unlocked with a password. You can also change the router's administrator password from the touchscreen.

Users can also view information such as device status, system log, and add devices. There are two options for adding devices; you can touch the "Add" tile, which simply displays the SSID and password needed for manually connecting other devices or you can touch the "WPS" tile/menu option on screen. There's no physical WPS button on the housing as there is on most routers, but you can press WPS and the router gives you three minutes to connect a client via that client's WPS button.

The only problem with having WPS within the touch interface rather than the screen, is if you accidentally touch the WPS tile and want to cancel there's no way to do so, you are stuck on that screen for three minutes. If you accidentally press an external WPS button on a typical router, of course, that does not interfere with you continuing to work in the management interface.

Touch Trouble
One issue I had in testing was that the touchscreen froze on me at one point. There was nothing to do accept reboot the device to resolve this problem.

Some features are more useful than others. "Connection" for instance gives you very light, basic network mapping as it graphically depicts your network connections. A really handy feature is the ability to update firmware with just a touch. After touching the "Firmware" tile, the screen indicated that a firmware update was available.? At a touch, Almond downloaded and applied the firmware? a far easier and more elegant process than most other routers provide for updating firmware.

You don?t have the option of setting any granular wireless settings with Almond, but it's targeted for users who probably wouldn't be interested in tweaking advanced settings (for more on tweaking routers, take a look at "10 Wireless Router Features You Should Be Using but Aren't") such as Frame Burst.

Oddly, within the wireless settings is an option to set the network to 5 GHz. Knowing the specs stated this is a 2.4 GHz-only router, I asked the Securifi team why this option was present. I was told this is a bug and there will be a firmware upgrade coming to fix it soon. It does make me wonder if the 5 GHz in the menu might indicate a dual-band version of Almond in the near future?

Fortunately, you aren't limited to the touch interface in case you aren't near the router, or there's an issue with the touch screen because Almond also has a web interface. It's got that same Metro-like UI as the touch screen's display. You can do a little bit more management in the web interface, for example, this is where you can change the wireless mode from Mixed to 802.11n-only.

Performance
For a 2x2 router, performance is decent, even on par with some 3x3 300 Mbps dual-bands I've tested. In 2.4GHz Mixed mode, throughput averaged about 55 Mbps. That speed did not get much of a bump when I switched into N-only mode; at the same distance I received 57 Mbps throughput. Here are charts comparing Almond in both modes to other single-band routers tested:

Novel Networking Device
Let's cut right to the chase; you aren't going to want to use Almond as a router for high-definition video streaming or for a network that has heavy gaming, or VoIP traffic.

There's no QoS and no 5 GHz band. What Almond provides is an easy way to setup a wireless router for Facebooking, chatting, emailing and your garden-variety Internet activity. I would consider Almond appropriate for my Dad, because he doesn't need an intense, expensive dual-band.

Almond is not available on the market just yet, but the Securifi website states, "Coming soon." The attractive interface and touch display is bound to draw tech neophiles looking for the latest, shiny gadget. And Almond looks more like a gadget than a router, making it more attractive than the typical router. Even better, for light Internet needs, it's got decent performance. I am a bit cautious about the touch screen freeze, and even though this is designed for those with light throughput needs, there ought to be at least Gigabit on the two LAN ports.? You can also get a router with similar or even better specs for about $30-40 online. Although the only pricing information available on Almond so far is "below $70," if the company prices the router not much lower than $70 keep in mind, you are paying a little extra for the touch screen. At the moment, Amazon lists Almond for $79, which seems a bit high.

Securifi tells me that a new firmware is due in August. The firmware is going to include Weather and Photo Viewing apps. That update is going to make Almond even more gadget-like. It's a novel approach to wireless networking and aside from a few concerns mentioned, it's not a bad single-band router, earning three out of five stars.

Romney voices aggressive stance toward Iran

JERUSALEM (AP) ? Mitt Romney would "respect" an Israeli decision to make a unilateral military strike against Iran aimed at preventing Tehran from obtaining nuclear capability, a top foreign policy adviser said Sunday as he outlined the aggressive posture the Republican presidential candidate will take toward Iran in a speech in Israel later in the day.

Romney has said he has a "zero tolerance" policy toward Iran obtaining the capability to build a nuclear weapon.

"If Israel has to take action on its own, in order to stop Iran from developing the capability, the governor would respect that decision," foreign policy adviser Dan Senor told reporters ahead of the speech, planned for late Sunday near Jerusalem's Old City.

Senor said Romney is careful to note the governor believes preventing nuclear "capability" ? not just a nuclear weapon ? is critical.

He later clarified his comments in a written statement, saying: "Gov. Romney believes we should employ any and all measures to dissuade the Iranian regime from its nuclear course, and it is his fervent hope that diplomatic and economic measures will do so. In the final analysis, of course, no option should be excluded."

"Gov. Romney recognizes Israel's right to defend itself, and that it is right for America to stand with it," Senor said.

Democratic President Barack Obama, by contrast, has warned of the consequences of an Israeli strike on Iran, though he has also affirmed the right of Israel to defend itself.

Romney believes the option of a U.S. attack should also be "on the table." He has said he will do "the opposite" of what Obama would do in his approach to Israel.

"Make no mistake: the ayatollahs in Tehran are testing our moral defenses. They want to know who will object, and who will look the other way." Romney plans to say later Sunday in a speech in Jerusalem. "My message to the people of Israel and the leaders of Iran is one and the same: I will not look away; and neither will my country."

The Obama administration hasn't ruled out the military option, but Obama has so far been relying on sanctions and diplomatic negotiations to discourage Iran from building a nuclear bomb.

For its part, Iran says it is not interested in nuclear weapons and its nuclear program is for peaceful, civilian purposes.

The Israelis are considering a strike because they fear Iran could be moving its nuclear enrichment sites further underground, out of reach of the weapons Israel has available.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday welcomed Romney as "a representative of the United States" and told the Republican presidential candidate he agrees with his approach to the threat of a nuclear Iran.

Netanyahu said he listened to Romney's speech in Reno, Nev., where the likely GOP nominee said that Iran possessing nuclear capability is the greatest danger facing the world.

"Mitt, I couldn't agree with you more," Netanyahu told Romney.

"We have to be honest and say that all the sanctions and diplomacy so far have not set back the Iranian program by one iota. And that's why I believe that we need a strong and credible military threat coupled with the sanctions to have a chance to change that situation," Netanyahu said.

The Israeli daily Haaretz reported Sunday that the Obama administration's top security official briefed Netanyahu earlier this month on U.S. plans for a possible attack on Iran. A senior Israeli government official, however, denied the report.

Iran's nuclear program has become the most pressing problem for the U.S. and Israel and Republicans have consistently criticized Obama for putting too much pressure on Israel in the peace process and being too weak on Iran.

Obama rejects the criticism, and his aides point to what they call unprecedented U.S.-Israeli security cooperation.

Senor was previewing the speech Romney plans in Jerusalem after he spends the day meeting with Israeli officials.

Over the course of the day, Romney will confront some of the world's most difficult peace and security challenges as he looks to demonstrate to Jewish and evangelical voters back home that he's a better friend to Israel than Obama.

Romney faces high stakes as he begins his talks with top Israeli officials and meets with the Palestinian prime minister. Mindful of polls back home that show a tight presidential contest, the former one-term Massachusetts governor is looking to burnish his foreign policy credentials and prove his mettle as a possible commander in chief.

The trip is a chance for Romney to draw implicit contrasts with Obama and demonstrate how he would lead America on the world stage.

But Romney arrived in Jerusalem Saturday night after a difficult few days in Britain, where he made the mistake of criticizing the country's Olympic Games and raised the hackles of his hosts. The gaffe undermined the stated goal of his weeklong journey through Britain, Israel and Poland: emphasizing America's ties with longstanding allies.

Romney has pledged not to criticize Obama while on foreign soil, honoring longstanding American tradition of leaving politics at the water's edge. But his aide's announcement of Romney's willingness to express support for an Israeli strike while in Jerusalem represents an effort to contrast the two presidential opponents.

In addition to Netanyahu, Romney met with other Israeli officials and will also sit down with Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad.

"Like you we are very concerned about the development of nuclear capabilities on the part of Iran and feel it is unacceptable for Iran to become a nuclear armed nation," Romney said at a meeting with Israeli President Shimon Peres. "The threat it would pose to Israel, the region and the world is incomparable and unacceptable."

Romney planned to spend the evening dining at Netanyahu's home ? the Israeli leader invited Romney and his wife to break the fast for the Jewish holiday Tisha B'Av. The holy day, celebrated Sunday, commemorates the destruction of two temples in Jerusalem.

Romney and Netanyahu have known each other since both were young businessmen at Boston Consulting Group in the 1970s.

On Monday, Romney plans a fundraiser with top American supporters in Israel, some guests have flown in from the U.S. specifically for the event.

While Romney is left to implicit contrasts with his Democratic opponent, Obama has been focusing on Israel, signing legislation on Friday increasing military and civilian ties between the U.S. and Israel. And he authorized the release of an additional $70 million in military aid for Israel, a previously announced move that appeared timed to Romney's trip.

Carr, Ching lift Dynamo in win at Toronto

Associated Press Sports

updated 7:41 p.m. ET July 28, 2012

TORONTO (AP) -Calen Carr and Brian Ching both scored as the Houston Dynamo beat Toronto FC 2-0 Saturday for their fourth straight victory.

The Dynamo (10-5-7) moved to second place in the Eastern Conference and extended their unbeaten streak to 5-0-2, having allowed just one goal in their last seven matches.

"We really took advantage of our chances," Houston's Brad Davis said. "Guys were willing to get behind the ball and get on the attack today and it worked out for us."

Carr put the Dynamo on the scoreboard in the 45th minute. Davis sent in a corner kick that Houston defender Bobby Boswell deflected to a wide-open Carr, who headed it in from the right side of the six-yard box for his third goal of the season.

"A terrible goal to concede, especially at that time," Toronto coach Paul Mariner said. "That's when you should be on your mettle. The last kick of the half, you have to be resolute. Takes the wind out of us a little bit."

Houston widened its advantage in the 86th when Davis set up Ching with a beautiful touch pass and the Dynamo captain put it past Toronto goalkeeper Milos Kocic with ease.

"Brian came on today and battled unbelievably hard, did a great job and got himself a goal," Davis said. "We've been a tough team to break down lately."

Toronto (5-12-4) snapped a three-game winning streak.

Both Houston goals came on defensive gaffes as Toronto played sluggishly after more than a week off since its last MLS game.

"The fight wasn't there, we made it too easy for Houston," Toronto forward Ryan Johnson said. "They were beating us on second balls and there wasn't enough effort on our end. If we don't bring it against Houston, you're not going to beat them."

Toronto came out sluggish in the second half until the 54th minute when Quincy Amarikwa battled for position with the ball in the six-yard box, but was taken down hard by two defenders. The newly-acquired forward pleaded to the refs but to no avail.

Houston continued to maintain possession as midfielder Boniek Garcia fired in a left-footed shot in the 57th that went just wide to the left.

The Dynamo slowed down the pace to protect their lead, though Toronto had a chance to tie it in the 73rd when midfielder Luis Silva put a deflected header just over the crossbar.

Being a very reliable, a very well educated and a very capable house wife what are the various products or home appliances you look at as an important part of your kitchen. I am sure that you must have starting preparing a huge list of various of them staring from the very basic stove till that very expensive coffee maker of yours, but in this huge list of various home appliances refrigerators are few of those products without which it would become hard for you to even sustain. As this is an appliance which helps you in keeping all those vegetable and fruits of yours in a proper or in fresh condition.

Yes that's true you can live without a very expensive coffee maker or a microwave as what these products are entitled to do can done with the help of a stove as well but there is no other mean with the help of which you can keep those cold drink bottles of your chilled or more importantly there is no other mean with the help of which you can keep fresh that fruit salad of yours. These days there are various brands which are working hard so that they can provide some of the best refrigerators for your purchase, but expertization is a word which cannot be associated with all. Therefore only a few of them all are worth to be look for.

LG is a brand which has been providing few of the most efficient products to us since some time now (almost a decade) and when we talk about their refrigerators they are the best to look at if you are planning to have one for a long time. But recently there had been some bad reviews for the same after viewing the LG Refrigerators price list 2012. As people have a belief that these products are highly rated if compared with few of the new brands in market. But what would you pay for a fridge if it is coming with a television in it. In fact this is a company which is providing products according to every price range; therefore if you are not having much to send of them no problem you can buy LG Refrigerators as they will set in your budget.

But still it doesn't matter how genuine price a company is asking for its products, we people always find way to add more discounts on them. The way we have done with these products. Therefore next time when you seek to reduce the LG Refrigerators Price in India, make sure you have consulted few of online websites as well, as you can find nice discounts with the help of them.

Forget the Olympics! Try racing with a burro

Courtesy Donna Alcorn

The start of the World Championship Pack Burro Race in 2011, during Burro Days in Fairplay, Colo.

By Rob Lovitt, NBC News contributor

Rumor has it that there?s a big sporting event taking place in London over the next couple of weeks. But if you really want to watch athletes push themselves to the limit, you might want to head to Fairplay, Colo., this weekend instead.

That?s where you?ll find a crowd of upwards of 10,000 people celebrating Burro Days?(July 28??29) and cheering on the competitors in the 64th annual World Championship Pack Burro Race.

What makes the event so extreme, you ask?

It could be the 29-mile course over dirt roads, boulder fields and snow.

Or, it could be the altitude, which is literally breathtaking, as the course climbs from 10,000 feet in town to 13,158 feet at the top of nearby Mosquito Pass and then back down.

Oh, and did we mention that each racer has to run the course while tethered to a donkey carrying 33 pounds of gear, including a pick, shovel and gold pan? Competitors may find themselves pulling, pushing, pleading, even bribing with food ? everything, in fact, except actually riding their burro ? while living up to the race?s official motto of ?64 Years of Hauling Ass.?

Courtesy Julie Bullock

Curtis Imrie comes down the home stretch with his burro, Full Tilt Boogie, during the 2011 race in Fairplay, Colo.

In other words, forget the Olympic motto of ?Citius, Altius, Fortius? (Faster, Higher, Stronger). This race is more like ?Citius, Altius, Asinus? (Faster, Higher, Donkeys), which is why we hereby officially decree Burro Days as Overhead Bin?s Weird Festival of the Month for July.

Like many homegrown festivals, Burro Days has both a genesis story ? two long-ago miners racing to town with their heavily loaded burros, both hoping to lay claim to the same patch of ground ? and a basis in the modern-day challenge of boosting tourism in small, out-of-the-way places.

?It was first proposed as a challenge in 1949 and it went out to anyone who wanted to race from Leadville to Fairplay,? said Julie Bullock, president of the festival?s burro committee. ?They were probably sitting in a bar at the time.?

Today, the festivities have expanded to include llama races, in which runners lead their charges through a three-mile obstacle course; dog races, in which kids compete alongside their pack-laden pets; and outhouse races, which should be pretty self-explanatory.

Courtesy Donna Alcorn

Jim Anderegg and Karen Thorpe fight to the finish after the 29-mile-long course in 2011. Thorpe barely crossed the finish line ahead of Anderegg, with a time of 5:41:50 and first place.

But the pack burro race is clearly the marquee event, albeit one that even competitors admit can cause some head-scratching among the uninitiated.

?The idea that you can get an animal not known for its cooperation to traverse 30 miles of ridiculous roads and open country to 13,000 feet and back for cash money sounds ludicrous,? said Curtis Imrie, a 40-year competitor and three-time world champion.

But, he said, donkeys? seeming stubbornness is really just the flip-side of their peaceful demeanor: patience in the face of suffering and underlying intelligence.

?In my experience, the race is a cross between a wrestling match, a 24-hour dance contest and an endurance race,? he told NBC News. ?You have to have the humility to realize your partner is a jackass. The lessons they can teach you ? counterintuitive or not ? are profound.?

Courtesy Julie Bullock

Barb Dolan and Chuggs finish first in the short course in the 2011 race, shown here coming through South Park City.

Clearly, this is not your average footrace, which may also explain why the Colorado Legislature officially designated pack burro racing as the state?s first-ever summer heritage sport in May.

Alas, that designation probably won?t raise the sport?s profile much beyond Colorado, but?it?s hard not to root for the hardy souls who accept the challenge to ?haul yer ass up the pass.?

?People should TiVo the Olympics,? said Julie Bullock. ?You can?t TiVo the burro race ? you have to be here in person.?

Picking out Simple Solutions Of S.E.M. Link Building | Health ...

There is so much misinformation on the net about backlinking that many people are intimidated by it. But a lot of new webmasters tend to struggle when it comes to finding trusted sources to get backlinks. There is no substitute for the right kind of information, and we just mean accurate information. Just like with PPC advertising, you can surely cause more harm than good if you do not know the basics. If you are totally new to IM, then read this article and then seek additional education.

Just one way to get started is by taking advantage of all the millions of directories. As you know, it is your link you need to submit so it can become included in the directory as a backlink to you. It doesn?t matter what topic your site is about, if you targeted good directories, you will get results. Now, besides the top web directories, you should also go for the smaller ones, and the reason for this is, even though they may not be that big, a backlink from them still holds importance. What this is represents one facet of your overall strategy, so be sure to do it. Do not bother with article directories as a source of effective backlinks since Google pretty much killed that in early 2011. Have no doubt that the article marketing game changed quite some time ago, but syndication has always worked just great. There are many such popular and not-so-popular article directories on the Internet that will allow you to add articles along with your resource box. Since backlinking is time consuming, you never want to waste it with articles for backlinks on directories. As always, you never want to produce low quality articles or content. Pop to Browse Around This Website for intelligent ideas.

Social media is a hot way to get targeted backlinks to your site, and by simply creating your profiles on these social media sites, you?ll be able to add your link to them. This is all about quality backlinks from sites that have gained trust and authority with Google and Bing. This is why adding your link to their profiles will give you the needed boost. Just see to it that you?re not spamming your link on any of the social media sites, and always be very sure you take the ethical route when it comes to backlinking success.

It is really not possible for everybody to get the very best backlinks possible, so do not get so hung-up about it. Everybody has to start at the same place, and so just figure out your campaign and get to work. A natural pattern of backlinking from big and small sites is the best portfolio to build. The best approach is to fit this into your daily schedule of things to do, and make it a business habit.

Green Tea Latte
????

I'm not a tea drinker. Other than Pu'er Tea, I only drink Hot Green Tea. I have a bottle of Powdered Green Tea at home which I will make when I want a break.

Although I love green tea, I have never tried Green Tea Latte before. I have a friend, Jessica who loves Green Tea Latte. ;) And I thought I have to tried it one day but it never happen. :P

Since I have green tea at home, I thought I would try to make my own Green Tea Latte. Hey! It taste quite good. Next time, I shall try making Iced Green Tea Latte. :)

Ingredients:
  • 3/4 cup of hot green tea, either using tea bag or powdered form
  • Sugar to taste
  • 1/4 cup of fresh milk

How to do it:
  1. Bring milk to a simmer.
  2. Remove hot milk from heat and froth it if you like.
  3. Meanwhile, add sugar to taste to the 3/4 cup of hot green tea.
  4. Add frothed milk to green tea.
  5. Serve.

Note:
  • This is a recipe based on personal preference.
  • Make a cup of cup green tea on how strong you want it to be, taking into consideration that it will be diluted by the added milk.
  • The proportion of my green tea to milk is 3 part green tea to 1 part milk. If you prefer a more milky latte, you can adjust to half cup tea to half cup milk or to your preference.
  • Size of the cup indicated is not restricted to what is shown in the photo. If you prefer a taller glass, please go ahead to use that.
  • Frothing the milk incorporate air bubbles to the milk. You don't have to do that if you do not have the gadget. I'm using a cheap frothing gadget bought from Daiso.
